It's Never Too Late
USA wrote an article about the second act, changing careers near retirement. CHANGING CAREERS! Changing careers encompasses more than just changing jobs. It can be starting a business or finding a new interest. Their advice was right on point and a good reminder that even as we reach retirement, we still have a lot of life to live.
I work with entrepreneurs all the time, and one of the questions I get often is if it is too late to start a new career, or a business. It reminds me of something I heard once. Someone said something about going back to school and that they were afraid that when they finished they would be too old, The reply to this is how old would they be if they didn’t go back to school. The truth is that It is never too late to be what you’ve always wanted to be.
Some interesting facts
At 25, Colonel Sanders still had yet to be a fireman, a streetcar conductor, a farmer, a steamboat operator, and finally proprietor of a service station, where he sold chicken. The chicken was great and people loved it, but he didn’t start making money until he started franchising “Kentucky Fried Chicken” at the age of 65.
You can find the tools to be happy now, even if you don’t know your purpose.
Rodney Dangerfield didn’t succeed in comedy until his forties. Ray Kroc was a milkshake salesman in his fifties until he bought McDonalds at age 52. Frank McCourt wrote Angela’s Ashes at 66. Julia Child wrote her first cookbook at 50. It’s never too late.
My own story is just as exciting. I took up painting a couple of years ago, and never in my wildest dreams did I think I could paint, let alone sell more than 20 paintings! So for anyone out there thinking about doing something different, it’s never too late. Be what you want to be, take chances, live life to the fullest, start now.
