Sorry, Not Sorry
I am as guilty as the rest of us. I say sorry all the time for things I don’t need to be sorry for. Lately I’ve been paying attention to how many other people (especially women) say sorry, especially when they don’t need to be sorry. I wrote about taking a hike a few weeks ago. During that hike, I noticed how when people were passing each other on the narrow trail, they would say sorry as they would step to the side to make room for others to pass by. Why? No one was doing anything wrong. I started saying excuse me instead and noticed I felt better about myself. In the time since then, I have quietly made a study of listening to sorry being said way too often, unnecessarily. So this post is being written in the hopes that we can all be mindful. Say sorry when there is a reason to say sorry. But sorry, not sorry is best when there is no reason to be sorry.
