How Much Do You Need To Know?
Two of the common things I hear from entrepreneurs about “why” they haven’t started their business is because:
1. They don’t know where to start.
2. They don’t know a lot about how to do what they want to do.
Breaking down these two statements is pretty easy.
The answer to #1 is to start anywhere. Take one little step and then take another. When you get bogged down, keep going, do something creative, go outside and commune with nature. The truth is, hardly any of us know where to start. We start from here and eventually we will get to there.
Another thing that keeps people from starting a business is related to #2; they don’t know a lot about how to do what they want to do. For example, they may want to put out a fashion line, but they don’t know how to sew, find a pattern maker or make one themselves, sketch their designs, find the appropriate material. It seems super easy, but there are many details that must be worked out before they proceed. Also, it is highly possible you don’t even need to know how to do any of those things to launch a successful design business. Fortunately we live in an age where information is easier to get than a parking ticket. (If you live in LA, you know exactly what I mean.) Google, networking groups, business clubs, mentors, workshops, classes, are available at every turn to assist you in getting from point A to point B, so put away your excuses. Look it up, Look both ways, and Launch!
