I Changed My Mind
My husband and I tried out a new restaurant in the neighborhood this evening and were sadly disappointed when five of the items advertised on the menu were unavailable, including such normal staples as beer! Now it is totally understandable that things happen, but this definitely seemed a bit extreme. To make matters worse, the server handled each request with indifference including the fact that the banana bread pudding that she convinced us was the best because of the vanilla bean ice cream, but instead was delivered with chocolate and we didn’t figure it out until we tasted it, was “Just what the kitchen decided to serve.” We later discovered they were out of the vanilla bean ice cream. It was so absurd that my husband and I couldn’t help but laugh at the situation and lamented that the restaurant would probably not last very long at all. The one thing we decided over the banana bread pudding with chocolate ice cream is that for sure, we wouldn’t return, even though some of the food was delicious. That is until, the manager came over, (although we had made no complaint whatsoever) and said that so many mistakes were made at our table that he would be comping our entire dinner and hoped that we would please return when the restaurant could make it up to us. It was the right thing to do. And I changed my mind about returning. When you make mistakes, own it, try to make it right, and you will be rewarded with loyalty and respect.
