MARKETING

mar·ket·ing

ˈmärkədiNG/

noun

  1. the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising

Marketing is really that all evasive term that everyone who is in business worries about. How can I keep up? What am I supposed to do? How do I get my message across? It all comes down to a few simple basics.

  • Who are you marketing to? (Be very specific about who your ideal customer is. If you market to everyone, you market to no one.)
  • How can you find them? (Where are they hanging out? FB, instagram, school, neighborhood grocery store?  hint: market to them in those places.)
  • What are you telling them about your product or service? (It needs to be authentic. Imagine telling your mother about it.)
  • Is the information you are telling them relevant to what they need? (What problem are you solving. If you tell me the soap smells good and I really need a soap that gets out the paint from under my fingernails, that is not relevant to me.)
  • Why do they care? (Really, why do they care?)
  • Have you asked them to take action? (Remember, the wait person at the restaurant asks for your order. If they didn't, you might be very upset they didn't.)
  • Do you believe in what you are producing/delivering/selling? (If you don't, quit now while you are ahead.)
  • Have you been truthful? (Always be truthful about what the product or service will do or it will ruin your reputation and your business.)
