CAN'T SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES?
What's the difference between managing and leading? Is one better than another? For a busy entrepreneur, it is very likely you wear both hats, switching back and forth at the speed of light.
One of the best ways to see the difference is to imagine being in a forest. When you are inside the forest, you can't see the trees. You are in the thick of it, managing. When you are outside the forest, you have a panorama - the wide angle view. You can see the forest, and being able to see the big picture is necessary for a leader.
Entrepreneurs have to be a little of both. Whenever you find yourself managing too much, take a moment to get outside of the forest. If you are spending most of your time looking at the big picture and figuring out how to accomplish your great vision, make sure to allot time to manage your business or hire someone that can. A good business needs both a manager and a leader. Sometimes you have to be both.
