Accountability

Every entrepreneur should have some accountability, regardless if it is with a another person or if it is system that you have in place. Some people think a business plan is a good way to stay accountable, especially if you review it periodically, others like writing a status report or making a list of goals and checking them off. Perhaps going to a retreat, conference, or seminar is a way to stay accountable and continue your educational needs. The MASTERMIND groups that I facilitate are another way to stay accountable. Whatever system you choose, accountability can take on many forms to help you keep track of what you have done, what you are doing and/or what you plan to do.

I like the kind that is with another person, because it gives you kind of a two punch system. One, I have to take the time to stop and think about what I want to accomplish, and then I have to communicate that out loud or in an email to another person. They know what I am trying to accomplish and are there to cheer me on or gently remind me to get my rear end in gear!

Accountability helps to make sure you are improving and moving forward with your goals. You can set up any parameters you wish, whether it be a call every day, twice a week, or once a month. Whatever works for you and your partner. It helps if you have some guidelines like what you expect from each other and set up a regular time to call or email each time. Keeping the accountability session confined to a very short amount of time helps you to stay focused and not get off track.

Whatever method you choose, stay consistent, and keep the momentum going. It will pay off in performance, productivity, and success.
