CREATING

I’ve been working on several commissions for families or individuals where I either let them come into my studio and create a backstory on the blank canvas before I finish it or let them participate throughout the entire process with my expert guidance of creating a sophisticated fine art painting.

The painting below was a surprise gift for the husband and dad of this family. The mom and her 3 children came in and before we got started we talked about what they were looking for with regards to an abstract painting and what hoped to convey with this project, who they were as a family, what made the husband/dad special, what were his favorite colors, hobbies, sayings, parts of their lives that stood out.

Starting out with a blank canvas everyone had a ball drawing, writing, and painting on the canvas. I guided them every step of the way and it was awesome to see their personalities shine through and fears dissolve. We added special dates, words and sketches of meaningful items. Unfortunately we couldn't physically add in the laughter and love that was expressed that session but I believe the painting holds all of that lovely energy.

The family wanted a more sophisticated painting so I let them know we would be covering up most of the art work with a background color and would finish the painting with five or six colors, symbols, sketches and meaningful words. They LOVED the final result and the husband/dad was overwhelmed with joy when he saw what his family had created especially for him.
